KTZ Express Organized First Multimodal Shipment of Chemical Products from Japan to Kazakhstan

KTZ Express continues to expand the geography of its international transportation services by integrating new Asian destinations into Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics system. The company has organized its first multimodal shipment of containers carrying chemical products from the Japanese port of Kobe to Almaty.

The route, with a total distance of approximately 6,000 km, combines sea and rail transportation. From the Port of Kobe, the containers travel approximately 1,620 km by sea to Lianyungang, China, where, following customs clearance, the cargo is transferred to rail and continues for another approximately 4,400 km to Almaty. At the China–Kazakhstan border, the containers are transshipped at the Altynkol border crossing onto rolling stock operating on Kazakhstan’s broad-gauge railway network before continuing to their final destination.

Lianyungang is one of the key elements of KTZ Express’s transport infrastructure in East Asia. The port is home to the Kazakhstan–China International Logistics Company in Lianyungang, a joint terminal project between Kazakhstan and China launched in 2014 as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Through this hub, Kazakhstan’s cargo flows gain access to international maritime routes connecting Kazakhstan, China and the markets of East Asia.

The Kobe–Almaty route demonstrates that the potential of such connectivity can be used not only for cargo originating in China, but also to link other countries in the Asia-Pacific region with overland routes running through China and Kazakhstan.

KTZ Express and Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce Strengthen Transport and Logistics Cooperation

KTZ Express and the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce held a meeting focused on strengthening transport and logistics cooperation and expanding international multimodal transportation.

The parties discussed prospects for developing multimodal transportation between Kazakhstan, China and Southeast Asian countries, opportunities to establish new logistics services and attract additional cargo flows, as well as coordination among participants in the transportation process.

Chongqing is one of the largest transport and logistics hubs in western China and serves as an operational center of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, which facilitates transport connectivity between China’s western regions and Southeast Asian countries. By the end of last year, the transport capacity of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor had exceeded 1 million TEUs, while the volume of cargo transported reached 327.7 thousand TEUs in 2025. Today, the corridor’s network connects 584 ports across 127 countries and regions worldwide.

This potential creates additional opportunities for the development of multimodal services involving Kazakhstan.

Particular attention during the meeting was given to opportunities for integrating routes through Kazakhstan with the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, creating a foundation for the development of end-to-end multimodal logistics solutions.

Following the meeting, KTZ Express and the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation and exploring promising transport routes.

On 28 July 2026, representatives of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company JSC (KTZ), KTZ Express, and Kedentransservice JSC met with a delegation from China Logistics Group Co., Ltd. and China Railway Materials Supply Chain Group Co., Ltd. to discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation.

The Chinese partners are among the leading state-owned companies in China's transport and logistics sector, specialising in international container transportation, integrated logistics solutions, and supply chain management for the railway industry.

During the meeting, the parties focused on opportunities to implement joint projects aimed at developing international transport corridors, expanding container services, and leveraging KTZ’s terminal infrastructure in new logistics solutions.

KTZ Express and Chengdu International Railway Port Discuss the Future of International Freight Transportation

KTZ Express continues to strengthen international cooperation and expand logistics corridors connecting China, Kazakhstan, and European markets.

As part of these efforts, Acting General Director (Chairman of the Management Board) A.I. Kapar held a meeting with Pan Jianhua, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chengdu International Railway Port Investment & Development (Group) Co., Ltd.

Chengdu International Railway Port Investment & Development (Group) Co., Ltd. (CIPI) is the state-owned operator of the Chengdu International Railway Port—one of Sichuan Province’s key transport and logistics hubs and a major departure point for China Railway Express services. The port provides rail connectivity with Europe, Central Asia, Russia, and Southeast Asia, while also serving the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the performance of existing rail services between China and Kazakhstan and discussed opportunities to further increase freight volumes. Particular attention was given to the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) to expand transport links with Europe and support the launch of new container services.

Expanding cooperation with the Chengdu International Railway Port will strengthen the international route network, enhance the resilience of global logistics supply chains, and create additional opportunities for freight transportation between China, Kazakhstan, and European countries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue developing joint projects aimed at increasing freight volumes and advancing sustainable international transport corridors.
