KTZ Express and Chengdu International Railway Port Discuss the Future of International Freight Transportation

KTZ Express continues to strengthen international cooperation and expand logistics corridors connecting China, Kazakhstan, and European markets.

As part of these efforts, Acting General Director (Chairman of the Management Board) A.I. Kapar held a meeting with Pan Jianhua, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chengdu International Railway Port Investment & Development (Group) Co., Ltd.

Chengdu International Railway Port Investment & Development (Group) Co., Ltd. (CIPI) is the state-owned operator of the Chengdu International Railway Port—one of Sichuan Province’s key transport and logistics hubs and a major departure point for China Railway Express services. The port provides rail connectivity with Europe, Central Asia, Russia, and Southeast Asia, while also serving the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the performance of existing rail services between China and Kazakhstan and discussed opportunities to further increase freight volumes. Particular attention was given to the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) to expand transport links with Europe and support the launch of new container services.

Expanding cooperation with the Chengdu International Railway Port will strengthen the international route network, enhance the resilience of global logistics supply chains, and create additional opportunities for freight transportation between China, Kazakhstan, and European countries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue developing joint projects aimed at increasing freight volumes and advancing sustainable international transport corridors.

KTZ Express continues to expand its export logistics network, creating new opportunities for Kazakh manufacturers to access international markets.

In July 2026, the company successfully organised its first shipment of mineral fertilisers from Ekibastuz to the United Kingdom. The containers are transported to the Port of Felixstowe via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) using a multimodal transport solution combining rail and maritime transportation.

The launch of the new route marks another milestone in KTZ Express’s systematic efforts to develop export logistics and support Kazakh producers. The new corridor expands export opportunities for domestic manufacturers by providing access to the UK market, while the use of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route ensures competitive transit times, diversifies transport corridors, and enhances the resilience of international supply chains.

Earlier, KTZ Express successfully organised the export shipment of Kazakh products along the Ekibastuz–Miami route. Today, the company provides freight transportation to the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, and other international destinations, continuously expanding its global logistics network and offering businesses new transport solutions.

New Sorting Tracks at Khorgos Gateway Increase Terminal Capacity by 48% and Enhance Wagon Handling Capabilities

Since the commissioning of nine 1,520 mm gauge sorting tracks and a current uncoupled wagon repair facility in September 2025, the KTZE–Khorgos Gateway dry port has significantly improved the efficiency of rolling stock handling and expanded its capacity for forming container trains at the Altynkol–Khorgos international transport hub.

The project has increased the terminal’s transshipment capacity from 540,000 TEUs to 800,000 TEUs per year, representing a 48% increase. The new infrastructure has become an important milestone in further strengthening Kazakhstan’s transit potential and enhancing the capacity of transport corridors linking China, Central Asia, and Europe.

During the first nine months of operation, the new facilities provided storage for approximately 1,300 rail wagons, completed current uncoupled repairs on more than 500 wagons, and enabled the loading of over 10,000 vehicles onto railway flatcars.

The new infrastructure allows the terminal to accommodate up to nine trains simultaneously, each consisting of up to 57 conventional wagon units. This has created additional capacity for wagon accumulation, destination-based sorting, and the efficient formation of container trains without waiting for capacity to become available on the mainline railway network.

The availability of dedicated sorting tracks also helps minimize wagon idle time and improve the utilization of operators’ rolling stock. In addition, the ability to accumulate rolling stock within the terminal reduces the risk of empty wagon shortages during periods of peak demand.

Today, the sorting tracks have become one of the key elements of Khorgos Gateway’s operational infrastructure, enabling faster cargo handling, higher service quality for customers, and further strengthening the terminal’s position as one of the largest dry ports in Eurasia.

Note: TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) is the standard unit of measurement used for container capacity.

KTZ Participates in the Implementation of a Pilot Project for Transporting Vehicles in Specialized Containers Along the Chongqing – Dostyk – Vorsino Route

JSC KTZ Express (a subsidiary of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy) is providing pilot transportation of passenger vehicles in specialized containers along the international Chongqing (China) – Dostyk (Kazakhstan) – Vorsino (Russia) route.

The project is being implemented as part of cooperation between China Railway Container Transport Corporation (CRCT), Yuxinou (Chongqing) Logistics Co., Ltd., and JSC KTZ Express. The train was dispatched by Yuxinou (Chongqing) Logistics Co., Ltd., while KTZ Express provides freight forwarding services across the 1,520 mm gauge railway network.

The train consisted of 55 specialized 40-foot containers designed for vehicle transportation. The total shipment volume amounted to 182 Changan passenger vehicles.

A distinctive feature of the project is the use of new universal 40-foot containers with a load capacity of 35 tonnes, specifically developed for transporting passenger vehicles. The application of specialized containers improves transportation efficiency, ensures cargo safety during transit, and expands container logistics opportunities for the automotive industry.

The pilot shipment represents an important milestone in the development of container services for transporting finished vehicles along the China–Russia route and demonstrates the potential of applying modern logistics solutions in international railway transportation.

The implementation of this project contributes to the further development of international cooperation among route participants and strengthens transport and logistics connections between China, Kazakhstan, and the countries of Eurasia.

KTZ Express Highlights Results of Participation in Transport Logistic China 2026

JSC KTZ Express participated in Transport Logistic China 2026 as part of the joint exhibition stand of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), showcasing integrated transport and logistics solutions for international freight transportation between China, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Europe, and the Middle East.

Throughout the three-day exhibition, the company's specialists held consultations with customers and partners, presenting KTZ Express's international logistics services, the capabilities of its international terminal network, multimodal transport solutions, current tariff offerings, and digital cargo management tools.

During the exhibition, Acting Chief Executive Officer (Chairman of the Management Board) of JSC KTZ Express, Aibek Kapar, held a series of bilateral meetings with executives of leading transport and logistics companies from China and Europe.

During a meeting with Peter Kiss, Chairman of the Management Board of Metrans, a.s., the parties discussed ways to improve the efficiency of transport and logistics services on European routes.

At the meeting with Dong Hui, General Director of China Railway Container Transport Co., Ltd. (CRCT), both parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation and implementing joint projects. Representatives of KTZ Express informed their Chinese counterparts about ongoing efforts to develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), including increasing infrastructure capacity, expanding the maritime component of the corridor, and systematically eliminating operational bottlenecks.

Special attention was also given to the development of China–Europe freight services. During meetings with Dong Wanxu, Chairman of the Management Board of Beijing Trans Eurasia International Logistics Co., Ltd. and General Manager of TE Germany GmbH, as well as Lai Zhouga, Deputy General Manager of Chengdu International Railway Port Investment and Development Co., Ltd., the parties discussed prospects for expanding container transportation between China and Europe and developing joint logistics services.

Representatives of CNTRAN International Logistics also discussed opportunities to further develop freight transportation between China and Iran, as well as expand existing logistics services on this route.

Participation in the exhibition enabled KTZ Express to hold productive negotiations with international partners, present its advanced logistics solutions to overseas customers, and identify new areas for cooperation in developing international transport corridors.

Transport Logistic China 2026 once again proved to be an important platform for promoting Kazakhstan's transit potential, expanding international partnerships, and developing new logistics services connecting Asia and Europe.
