Investments in Kazakhstan's Transport Sector

An international business conference titled “Strengthening Kazakhstan–EU Connectivity: Prospects and Strategic Potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor)” was held in Brussels. The event was organized by JSC “NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kingdom of Belgium.
The conference became one of the largest international platforms in 2026 dedicated to discussing the development prospects of the Middle Corridor, bringing together more than 100 representatives of government institutions, international financial organizations, and leading European transport and logistics companies.
A key outcome of the forum was the conclusion of four agreements totaling USD 462 million, aimed at strengthening transport connectivity between Europe and Asia and further developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
In particular, a Memorandum of Cooperation on the comprehensive digitalization of state airports, including biometric identification, was signed between SITA and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In addition, a Loan Agreement for the “Aktobe–Ulgaysyn” project was signed between JSC “NC KazAvtoZhol” and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
KTZ subsidiary KTZ Express signed an agreement with Midia Marine Terminal to implement a joint project at the Romanian port of Midia. The project will expand the route’s infrastructure capacity in the Black Sea region and enhance cargo handling efficiency.
Furthermore, KTZ Express and A.P. Moller – Maersk reached agreements on the development of container transportation along the Middle Corridor and the attraction of additional cargo volumes to the route.
The event was attended by representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, as well as executives from leading international companies, including DHL Global Forwarding, HHLA International, RHENUS, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, Ahlers Logistics, and A.P. Moller – Maersk.
During the conference, the Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” presented plans for the further development of Kazakhstan’s transport infrastructure and international terminal network, emphasizing their importance for increasing freight volumes along the Middle Corridor.
The conference is being held as part of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to Brussels at the invitation of the President of the European Council, António Costa.
The conference outcomes confirmed the readiness of European partners to accelerate the development of the Middle Corridor, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s leadership in transcontinental logistics.
